Homemade playdough will last for many, many months in a sealed Ziplock bag, and it takes less time to make it at home than to drive to the store for the brand name stuff. We used neon food coloring for the batch pictured above.

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 cup of salt
  • 1 tablespoon cream of tartar
  • 2 cup of water
  • 1/4 cup solid oil, like Crisco
  • Food coloring

 Homemade playdough
Combine the first three ingredients in a saucepan. Stir in the water and the oil a little bit at a time.

Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until a ball forms.

Remove from heat, place dough on table and knead until smooth. Divide into smaller portions and add food coloring.
